DEPTFORD FIRE DEPARTMENT
FIRE EXPLORER POST#9

Fire Explorer Post#9 is a volunteer run program sponsored by Deptford Fire Department, New Jersey. This program was developed to give youth between ages of 12 and 18 the opportunity to learn about the fire service. Explorers have the opportunity to do course work in fire science and receive hands on training instructed by Deptford Firefighters. Fire Explorers are allowed to work with fire equipment such as fire hoses, fire apparatus, and Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA). They are also taught firefighting techniques such as Search and Rescue, Ventilation, Fire Attack, and Pump Operations.

Assisting the community in the fire service is not the only goal of the Explorers. Each year they show their support to other organizations by volunteering their assistance in any way that they can. Explorers have assisted with community activities such as Deptford Soccer Haunted Trail, Deptford Day, Graduations, and fundraisers. This enables the explorer to obtain a broad spectrum of firefighting skills along with discipline and respect for the fire service and community it serves.
Explorers compete in Regional Competitions and enjoy trips to places such as the Philadelphia Fireman’s Museum and Chinatown’s District Firehouse Ladder #29. The training that is provided by the Fire Explorer Post will give the training needed to find a successful career and become a well rounded individual within the community.
